FilesThere is both a 32-bit and 64-bit version of UCINET (although the 64-bit version has a few issues described below). There are two download options, the 32-bit version only, or a new combination-installer that installs both the 32 and 64 bit versions.
Note that you can install UCINET on as many machines as you like. And you can upgrade anytime; there is no cost, and there is no need to re-register. The only time you have to register is when installing UCINET on a new machine (at which point use your old registration code: it is good for life).
32-bit Installation Package. This installs the latest version of the 32-bit version of UCINET along with several helper programs (such as NetDraw and KeyPlayer), and puts a copy of all the standard datasets in a folder called Ucinet Data under your Documents folder. It runs on 64-bit and 32-bit Windows.
32/64 bit Combination Package. New! This includes everything that is in the 32-bit package but adds the 64-bit version of UCINET. The 64-bit version lets you analyze much larger datasets, if you have the RAM memory for it. However, it is also flaky. Older parts of UCINET are not compatible with 64-bit execution, so these parts will crash or give you an 'unable to run' message. Note: there used to be an installation package that only included the 64-bit version. Unfortunately, it was also incompatible with NetDraw. This combination package solves that problem.
The combination package is new, so please report any issues.
FAQs
Trial vs 'real' version. Actually, there is no separate trial version. If you download the program, it will run on your computer for 90 days without having to enter a registration code. Buying the program gets you that registration code. So whether you buy or just try, you download the same program.

Virus/malware issues. One thing to be aware of is that, depending on your security settings, Windows will issue a warning that the publisher is unknown and probably dangerous. This just means we haven't sought (read: paid for) Microsoft certification. It's > $400 a year!
Installation Notes
Windows
Installation works best if you right-click on the installation file (typically called something like setup32UCI6534.exe) and choose 'Run as Administrator'. Similarly, it is also helpful to use 'Run as Administrator' when running UCINET itself for the first time, as this allows you to register the program for all users of your machine.
MAC
The best way to run UCINET on a Mac is to use a Windows emulator such as Parallels (or, of course, Bootcamp). However, it is (often) possible to run UCINET on a Mac using Wine. For more information, see this FAQ.
Google Chrome's version 86 (released 6 Oct 2020) has a new security 'feature' which blocks certain downloads. (Click here for more information.) This means that, as a user, you click on a download link, and nothing happens. No error message; nothing. It turns they are doing this with exe files (like UCINET's installer packages) in which the exe is stored on a non-secure website (such as we used to use).
This does not affect downloads of the current version of UCINET, since these are now located on a secure server. However, it does affect downloads of old versions. If you want to download an old version, copy the link, paste it into the address bar of your browser, and change 'http' to 'https'.

Version Info

  • Version 6.727 | 27 May 2021
    Fixes
    • Fixed the structural holes routine in both the menu and CLI. When the user chose to run the routine on directed data without using Burt's sum-based symmetrization, the constraint calculation could be off for some nodes. Running structural holes with this option is still not recommended, however, because it is not how Burt designed the measure. It exists in UCINET for methodologists to play with ...

  • Version 6.726 | 21 May 2021
    Changes
    • Changed Tools|testing hypotheses|dyadic|regression|y permutation so that it now recognizes undirected graphs and only uses half the cells in the adjacency matrices.
    • Changed tools|testing hypotheses|dyadic|regression|double-dekker to make centering X variables optional. Previously, it always centered the independent variables. This improves numerical accuracy when the variables are on wildly different scales, and does not change parameters on the variables. But it does change the intercept, which could be disconcerting to people benchmarking against a stat package. So now it gives you the option of centering, and the default is no centering.

  • Version 7.725 | 15 May 2021
    Changes
    • Changed tools|hypothesis testing|dyadic|regression|double dekker to automatically detect if the data are undirected and then avoid duplicating cells. This cuts the number of observations in half.

Installing UCINET on MAC machine

Mac
#6462

I am asking students to install UCINET for my course. However, students using MAC seem encounter problem during installation although they read instruction on UCINET sites. I am not MAC user and I do not know hoe to help them.

'I tried to open the software UCINET withWine Bottler and X11 in my MacBook Air again last night, but in vain. Apple told me that the button 'Anywhere' for installation of softwarewas no longer available for new series of MacBook and that was why failure ofopening of UCINET.

May I know if other methods for fixing theinstallation problems?'

Does anyone know how to fix it? Thank you.

I used this work around in a 2017 class so I dont know if it still is effective.

I teach SNA and have Mac users in the class. So I got a MacBook Pro to see how to use UCINET in that environment. Below is what I have come up with so far. It uses an Oracle utility called VirtualBox.
First, use VirtualBox to install the environment to host a 'virtual machine'. The link to that install package is here
https://www.virtualbox.org/wiki/Downloads and of course you download and install the OS X host package.
Second, once it is installed you create a new virtual machine in the 'Oracle VM VirtualBox Manager' screen specifying which Windows operating system you are going to run in that virtual machine. You then install a Windows operating system that you can get on a DVD (such as Windows 8.1) . (I also had a Windows 7 disc and I installed that OS on a second virtual machine). I got these from my U's computer store cheap and then followed their instructions to install the operating system. Once Windows is installed (and it takes a while, hour or so, with some input from you), you can then download and install the latest version of UCINET from here
https://sites.google.com/site/ucinetsoftware/downloads using the virtual machine. (It installed for me in both Windows environments – the difference between the two environments is that 7 uses fewer computer resources to install while 8.1's look is that of a Surface Tablet rather than the older desktop config.)
Third, because I like students to keep all working files on a thumb drive or memory stick, they need to update their Virtual Machine with Oracle VirtualBox Extension Pack which is available for download at virtualbox.org site.
Once you have installed it you go to settings on your virtual machine. With the thumb drive plugged into a usb port, you go to settings/ports/usb and then check enable usb controller and enable usb 2.0 (echi) controller and the click on the first button on the right just above the button with the + sign. then click okay. remove the usb stick then launch your virtual machine. when the windows is loaded then plug the stick back in and you should see windows telling you that it is installing the software for the disc and once done the disc should be available in your file list. Then you can change the default folder in UCINET to the thumb drive.

UCINET is a Windows program. To run it on another platform you will need a Windows partition (such as Boot Camp), a Windows emulator (such as VMware Fusion or Parallels), or a 'compatibility layer' such as Wine.

Ucinet For Mac

How to download and use CoRD to connect to and set up UCInet from OS X Mac computers. You must be on the CC network (ethernet or tigernet2) to do this. MAC The best way to run UCINET on a Mac is to use a Windows emulator such as Parallels (or, of course, Bootcamp). However, it is (often) possible to run UCINET on a Mac using Wine. For more information, see this FAQ. Integrated with UCINET is the NetDraw program for drawing diagrams of social networks. In addition, the program can export data to Mage and Pajek. The full program can be downloaded and used free for 60 days. For longer use, individual students pay $40, faculty, schools & government pay $150, and corporations pay $250.
